Coming in at a whopping five feet and three inches, Jillian played volleyball competitively for two years at Torrance High School and Beach Cities volleyball club as a starting outside hitter. Despite her size, she worked tirelessly on improving her speed and vertical jump and was able to play on varsity the summer of her junior year. Unfortunately her high school career was cut short due to track and field induced knee injury. But by her senior year of high school she was able to fill the volleyball sized hole in her heart and began playing beach volleyball.Â
For the remaining two years, Jillian battled with her knee injury while attending Cal State San Marcos where she eventually began physical therapy and other rehabilitation practices. By summer 2022, Jillian had been accepted to UC San Diego as a transfer student and with her newly rehabilitated knee began to focus on volleyball once more. To get back into the game she began volunteering at her old volleyball club helping to coach kids from ages 8-16 and ended up getting hired for the rest of the summer.Â
With her newfound coaching experience, Jillian began her first intramural team in Fall of 2022 and ended up taking third in her division. Although she’s had a tough time getting back into the game, she wouldn’t change a thing for without these challenges she never would’ve discovered her love of coaching.Â
When she’s not outside playing beach volleyball at school with her friends, Jillian can be found in her room binge watching any new Netflix series, listening to classic rock, playing video games, participating in her school’s weekly trivia night (we have not won yet but next quarter for sure), singing, and painting.
