Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Dmitriy Yurchenko moved to the United States with his family when he was six years old. Dmitriy attended La Jolla High School, where he played indoor volleyball as a middle blocker and helped his team win a CIF Championship title his senior year.
After high school, Dmitriy went to Long Beach State University where he got his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He continued his indoor career at LBSU by playing college club volleyball, helping his team win multiple tournament titles and finishing 5th in the nation his senior year.
Dmitriy also attended San Diego State University for his Master’s degree in business. While at SDSU, he was the assistant coach on the club men’s indoor team for two years. He then moved into the head coaching position for the women’s club team for three years before coming over to join the COAST family in 2020.
During his time at COAST, Dmitriy has assisted teams who have gone on to win a National Qualifier title in Liberty division and a GJNC gold medal in Patriot. Dmitriy believes in using positive reinforcement and process-oriented learning to help his players improve their athletic, mental, and interpersonal skills.
Apart from coaching, Dmitriy works full-time in program management at a 3D printing manufacturing company in Carlsbad. In his spare time, Dmitriy enjoys traveling, playing beach volleyball, hiking, and spending time with his wife, Katie, and their border collie, Nash.
