Sean Thomas has been coaching volleyball for the last 15 years. At the age of 22 he became the youngest varsity volleyball coach in San Diego County when he took over the San Marcos boys and girls program. While coaching the Knights Sean guided the girls squad to two CIF appearances and took the boys program to the quarterfinals of CIF for the first time in school history.
Sean is currently in his 10th year at Coast Volleyball. In 2005 Sean led the Coast Volleyball 12 local team to the San Diego County Local Championship by winning the Spike Fest championship. In 2006 Sean’s Coast’s 15-2 surprised many by finishing the season in division 1 in the SCVA tournament series. In 2007 Sean’s 13 national team traveled to Louisville Kentucky to play in the JDVA tournament, seeded 41st the team scrapped and clawed it’s way to a 5th place finish losing to the eventual champion Sports Performance of Chicago. In 2008 Sean guided the 14-2 team seeded 39th to a 22nd place finish at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix Arizona. The last two seasons Sean’s 12-1’s teams have finished amongst the top 23 teams in Southern California standings. Currently Sean is the Leap Frog Director and Coach of the Coast12-1 and 14-2 team. Sean also is a contributor to the Point Loma High School Girls Volleyball Program. Serving as the JV coach Assistant Varsity Coach.
Sean’s enthusiasm and energy that is his trademark as a coach served him well in his playing career, where he was a part of the first CIF Championship for Poway High School. Sean played his college ball for Palomar College where the Comets became the first team in San Diego history to play for a state title. Sean went on to finish his degree in Liberal Studies at Cal State San Marcos.
