Coaching: Boys
Jake was born and raised in San Diego, nurturing a love for volleyball since playing in his first CBVA tournament at 12 years old, 13 years ago. He played at Coast for 6 years and then played on the club team at USC, where he studied psychology. Over the last three years, he has coached at Muirlands MS, LJHS Beach, and LJHS Indoor.
In his free time, Jake balances coaching, playing beach volleyball, and studying for a career in mindfulness, health, wellness, and performance coaching. His interests also extend to photography and backpacking, reflecting his love for both sports and the outdoors. Jake’s coaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic, athlete-centered approach. He prioritizes the needs, goals, and well-being of the athletes, empowering them to understand and make decisions for themselves. He integrates the focus on data and biomechanics with an understanding of psychology in sports coaching.
Passionate about mindfulness, flow state, growth mindset, and personal beliefs, he recognizes how these areas extend their influence beyond the sport. Utilizing cognitive psychology, he deepens his understanding of perception, learning, and habit formation. Jake champions ethical sportsmanship and focuses on long-term athlete development, nurturing a lifelong love for the sport and fostering improvement in all aspects of life.
